Introduction
The introduction has the following aims:
- providing self-reflection on your expectations for the course;
- presenting the core concepts of the project;
- reflecting on DCE and your identity as an individual and as a teacher.In order to do so, you will find 3 tasks:
- Task 1 - Self-reflection activities.
- Task 2 - Digital Citizenship Education Highlights.
- Task 3 - DCE, Foreign Languages and Me.
Task 1
As you begin this course, we invite you to reflect on some core issues:
What are your expectations for this course?
What motivates you to learn about/teach DCE?
What kind of initiatives concerning DCE topics would you find important to have as a (future) teacher?
How do you think that teachers can collaborate in DCE?
Task 2
Digital Citizenship Education - highlightsNow we invite you to develop your knowledge on Digital Citizenship Education by watching two short videos on the concept of DCE, one by professor Vitor Tomé and another by professor Christian Ollivier, who participated in one of the project activities.
The video transcripts of the short videos are made available.
You can also browse the folder Digital Citizenship Education - documents and read the available documents for further knowledge.

DCE and Foreign Language Education
Within the project a framework was created which established the existance of 5 domains, corresponding to the 5 modules of this online training course. This diagram presents an overview of each domain. These will be further explored as you complete the modules.
If you wish, you can watch the full videos by:
Professor Vítor Tomé
Professor Christian Ollivier
(Note: transcripts of the full videos are not provided)
Task 3
DCE, Languages and Me
Reflect on your own identity as a digital citizen and as a foreign language teacher:
Who am I as a digital citizen?
Who am I as a digital citizenship educator and/or as a language teacher?
Do you often develop DCE practices in your classes? Which topics do you explore? Which are the main challenges/constraints when doing it?
Do you collaborate with your colleagues in DCE teaching? If yes, how?
What traditions or structures at your school make you engage in DCE education?
